The chassis is sand blasted, etched and then powder coated.
It is not applied so that is is thick enough to crack.
It does feel very much like paint and linishes off with out leaving a raggy edge, so is easy to either brush or spray with paint to repair if needed.
I've experienced chassis from other manufacturers where the powder coat is applied without blasting or etching..... it falls off in sheets after a while
