I don't see a problem with allowing accurate replicas, provided that they're built in the spirit as well as the letter of the rules. Many of the originals are getting too valuable to race, so it makes sense to allow replicas if we aren't going to see a terminal decline in classic racing. The irony is that the value of many classics have increased significantly primarily due to their eligibility for classic racing.
The problem with Goodwood is that Lord March stated on TV that they don't allow replicas, which is clearly not the case.
