BRA 289 fuel tank

Post by simonjrwinter »

I've recently bought a lovely BRA 289 replica.
It's been standing for a while and despite flushing the tank, there's a LOT of rust making its way through to the filter. I have a sealer kit but have decided to have a replacement made in aluminium. Can anyone suggest someone/somewhere (preferably SE, Essex area) where I could get a replacement made? I can remove the tank so they have a pattern to copy.
Thanks, any advice appreciated.

The original BRA 289 used an MGB tank, located at the boot bottom?

If so, here is your choice:

That's interesting, the car has a tank located behind the rear seats. It looks to have been fabricated for this car. I'll probably stick with a copy of this one, thanks.

With ethanol levels at 5% - 10% you might be ok but if they push the content higher your aluminium tank will be at risk. Can you not use stainless steel?

My car, which is a fairly early BRA, has the tank in the bootspace, standing vertically fixed just behind the rear bulkhead. I do think that originally you could fit the MGB tank and that the tank like mine was an option.
