SOUTHERN ROADCRAFT
I have an opportunity to buy a Southern Roadcraft Ac Cobra replica with Jag running gear and a Chevy small block v8 5.3 litre engine . Has anyone got any experience of such an A C ? I do not wish to buy a pig in A poke !! Your comments please. Regards Maurice

Maurice,
I think you will find that all of our members use either Rover or Ford. I am not aware of any member owning a Southern Roadcraft as most of our members own a 289 hence our club name.
So I wouldn't hold your breath for an answer on Chevy engined 427 replica.

Hi Maurice,
You would probably be better asking the same question on the Cobra Replica Club form http://www.cobraclub.com.
The 289 Register is primarily focused on 289 variants of the Cobra (genuine and replicas).
However, if you decide to buy a 289 Cobra, please feel free to come back to us with any questions you might have.
Regards,
Paul

Re: SOUTHERN ROADCRAFT
Just so happens that among my nine Cobra reps I went from my first, a RAM 427 with a Rover 3.9 to a Southern Roadcraft 427 with a Rover 3.5. This was circa 1990. The RAM was better on a track, the SR was a better road car. My 4th Cobra was also an SR but this time with a Chevy 5.7. Once again, nice ride quality but not such good handling. The engine was not in good health so I moved it on quick. I think what helped the SR was the steel tub welded to the chassis, which I guess is what inspired John Kerr (also a past SR owner) to adopt with his Crendon 427.
Depends what you want from the car I suppose?
