Peter, it should be ready for Sunday all things going well. There should be a number of different "templates" so that they all dont just look copy/pasted. If you read through the post earlier from AK Cobras, you'll see that it could be possible , if enough people respond to this with valid replies, to get it changed

Re: Consultation on changing emissions standards for kit cars
Andy, the number of amateur build vehicles still gives an inflated figure as many Kitcars, Even Cobras, are fitted with ‘clean’ engines.
I still think we should be challenging the proposers to quantify the benefits of section 4.11 & 4.12 before imposing changes that do nothing to fulfill the aim of the legislation.

It’s better to have that number than no number I think.
I have also asked if they can give a figure for cars that used a donor engine.

Re: Consultation on changing emissions standards for kit cars
The most important thing to bring to their attention is that you cannot really fit emmisions compliant engines to kits as they run ECU's that are dependant on things such as ABS, airbags, traction control etc being hard wired in and functioning. You're not allowed to have the above fitted to a car for IVA due to the electrical complexities involved. Therefore you cannot fit these engines as an amatuer build.

I thought there are '7's running EFI as standard that get around this?
Re: Consultation on changing emissions standards for kit cars
I think that Caterham have been using more modern engines for years and have their own design of ECU to only cover engine requirements. e.g. no ABS, no traction control, no airbags. All their engines are rather small four cylinder units.
1500 cc Cobra - I think not.
We need to remember that most cars since 1995 will be front wheel drive so not suitable for our use.
By using an existing car as a donor we are recycling and not adding to the number of cars on the road. In rebuilding the engine we will be returning it to full efficiency thus actually reducing the pollution it would have otherwise been making.
Recycling old parts is more environmental than building a new car from scratch.
Nige has promised some bullet points soon. I think this is a good way to be more forceful in our comments. Keep it brief and to the point. Factual as possible and avoid rambling/ waffle.

I think you're right on the re-use is better than recycle, Peter. I found this from the European Environment Agency - if I understand it right, the blue part of the graph is the manufacturing emissions - about a fifth of a petrol car's total lifetime output (not the higher value I mis-remembered in an earlier post):

Looking at that chart and then "Trying" to apply a 15mpg beasty to it....
I found a calculator on the net (So it must be true ). We are about 50% dirtier than an Aston V12. 15mpg would produce around 450 g/km
Then allowing around 1/3 of their "50" score for production due to re using rather than recycling.
I get 17 for this.
Then 450 divided by 10 (more like 1500 miles per year than 15000 for a production car) 45.
Total score = 62.
So. Less than a windmill powered electric car of CO2 per year.

Or in other words....
A Golf 1.4TSI life carbon figures over 12 years and 100,000miles comes to around 35 tonnes of carbon.
A 15mpg Cobra over 12 years and 18,000 miles (1500 pa) comes to around 14 tonnes.
