Let's say you were involved in a fatal accident where a child was killed. Would you be happy your insurance company would stand behind your "MGB"?
Would anybody in their right mind take the chance?

Simon. Is this aimed at me or is it a general question to others? This really could be deemed to be a different topic regarding the morality of illegal registrations, though I understand the link you use.

Of course I wouldn't expect the insurance company to "stand behind my MG", which is why I bought a car that had been through SVA and why my scratch build aluminium car will go through IVA.

The bigger problem is really that of a moral dilemma. At what point would you deem it correct to notify the powers that be, that certain cars are incorrectly registered and have not been through an IVA test? If you knew that club members in any car club you were a member of, or were friends with, had illegally registered cars would you feel it your duty to report them, for the reasons of your analogy used above? Awkward situation isnt it? Personally I feel it's none of my business what others do, so long as I register my cars correctly,....this helps me sleep at night, without having to worry about the "what ifs?"

Unfortunately people do take that "chance" and could risk losing the car, time and money invested in it if caught.

Nige,
I wouldn't interfere with what someone else had decided. As long as they knew about it and we're happy to take the risk, I'd see it as none of my business.
If a cobra owner wasn't aware of the problem, I'd like to think I could inform them without getting a mouthful.

Anyone on here?
Did they buy knowing how it's registered?
Wow!...Wonder if they paid full asking price?
Probably will be back on the market in a year or so.
I've come across that name before somewhere, can't think where (and i don't mean Phil). Looking at the website, which seems to be a facewitter whatever, it could be a dealer who's bought it, oddly
