Pin Drive Hub 'D' washer

Post by 289 Mk111 »

Hi All
I am having a set of pin drive Halibrands fitted to my Kit , which has Jag front axles
Does any one have any experience in doing this - specific problem is the outer diameter of the jaguar front axle ''D" washer is too big to fit inside the center spinner .?

I can;t see your image, but are you going for 5-pin or 6-pin wheels?
If 5 pin the easiest solution is to get a set of 'Simon hubs' that discard the Jag hub, pull the wheels in to suit most UK cobra kits and fit to the jag upright.

Sorry about the image cant find out how to post an image

Yes I have bought a set of Simons Hubs and I am trying to fit them to the Jag front axles - the D washer that holds the wheel bearing in to the Hub, is to big to fit into the center of the new hub?
I have tried to research if E types / splined hubs have smaller dia washer than the XJ6/12 hubs but every suggests they are all the same?
so not sure what is the usual solution.
cheers

If you can... get it on a lathe and spin it up and linish it with an angle grinder.
You might need to use the spindle to hold it. Or machine a flat on the side of a bolt and put that in the chuck ;-)

i believe thee are 2 variants on the hub bearings, one slightly bigger than the other, so wont fit.
Not sure if the part you are referring to is part of this, DB probably better placed than me to comment (although i think Dave is a 6 pin expert)

Thanks Gents
I hope to get the Jag spares shop this afternoon and hopefully will get to compare the two parts I have found C3400 early cars and C45724 late cars

if not they will have to be turned down as suggested.

I'll update on this one.
The C3400 has a smaller hole for the thread than the later Jag type. I'm guessing probably a 9/16" and is around 2mm smaller on the outside diameter.
The C45724 has a 5/8" hole for the thread. ;-)

Hiya-

If you're not a club member, you can embed photos in the forum by uploading them to Flickr first and then putting a link in your forum post. There are some instructions here: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=3133&p=26411&hilit=HOWTO#p26411

If you are a paying club member, then you can upload photos directly to the forum using the 'Attachments' option underneath where you write your posts. Here's a screenshot: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3479#p28752

Direct upload is one of the benefits of becoming a paid-up member, along with access to the wiki, the monthly magazine and so on.

Cheers,

Thanks Everyone
to give an update.....
Choice of washer is based on the Stud diameter therefore I had to use a C3400 washer as I have a pre 76 axle
I ended up putting them into the lathe as they where not concentric - probably because they are presses ?

all ok now and fitted.
