Thank you Peter and Amulheirn. Karl, dont stop the charm lessons just yet. Gerry’s thoughts were that the push rod for the front brakes should be as close to the fulcrum as possible without touching and with the rear about 1/4 of an inch out (nod to Roger) but the final adjustment was also affected by whether or not you had drum or disc brakes, with drum brakes having more “grab”. Clearly, there is no obviously clear consensus. Stu was helpful as when asked by the examiner why he had not welded the lock nuts pointed out that welding inside a car, especially a GRP car, had a certain fire risk and the examiner was happy with the drilled and roll pinned bar. Now, I shall go and find that manual..............

I have sent in the IVA documentation giving the front axle and rear Axle weights as 500kg each. I am being asked for the GVW of the vehicle. Would about 1.25 metric tons be about right? What have others used for these figures - any help gratefully recieved.

Hiya - I got these figures from Gerry for my IVA form:

Axle 1- 650kg
Axle 2 - 700kg
Gross - 1350kg

This is for my car - ford engine with MGB back end. Not sure if you’re the same...

Also not sure if this includes the driver!

Been meaning to get in touch, but have been flat out getting the car ready before Monday. Be in touch when I get a minute!

My Ford 302 with Jag rear is 650 Kg front, 750 Kg rear and 1400 Kg Gross. This was weighed at the test centre. (No driver but full fuel)
Cheers, Clive.

My BRA is 1050kg - half tank of fuel and no driver. There is a very heavy spare wheel well in the back of my car too. Why are Hawks so lardy?

The Jag rear end is such a heavy assembly and add to it a cast iron lump up front, it all adds up. A Hawk with an MG axle and a Rover V8, I'm guessing, is considerably lighter.

The original question was asking for the Gross Vehicle Weight which is different from the actual weight of the vehicle and used to determine the brake calculations.
The weights quoted above are the Design Weights including the driver as can be seen in the first sheet below. The actual total weight of the car is 965 Kg. as can be seen in the second sheet.
