Bonnet/boot seal

Post by simonjrwinter »

As I’m fitting my car back after paint, I wanted to put a seal around the bonnet/boot.
I can recommend this “ribbed” design from Woolies. Fits well and looks good.

Cool. I was just wondering about that. Do you have a part number? And have you tried sloshing water over the boot yet?

It looks brown in the photo or is it black in reality.
If brown it’s available from DIY/ ironmongers as draught excluder for household doors.
I would be interested if you think it’s better than the standard foam from the point of view that it is more likely to duct any water away without it dropping into the boot as soon as yo open the boot lid.

Have fitted the same (black type) on my car. Untested in heavy downpours, but easy to apply, looks good, and gives a nice solid (but cushioned) base for the bonnet/boot to rest on.

The only problem I encountered from the standard foam sealing tape is when I over fill the petrol tank and fuel runs down to the top of the boot lid and dissolves the adhesive.
Cheers, Clive.

Crikey didn’t the pump automatically cut out. Surely you would have had fuel spilling out of the tank vent pipe first.
I have to keep pulling the nozzle up and checking on the level in order to fill the tank properly but appreciate mine is an FIA tank with the nozzle at an angle.

I try not to overfill the tank and most spills happen if there is fuel left in the nozzle when I start filling. I do however brim the tank on my trip to and from Silverstone so I can do the 220 miles from home to Scotch Corner in one go as there are very few petrol stations on the route through the Borders and then I can do the further 200 miles without refuelling again.
Cheers, Clive.
