Looking for KD289 cobra owners

Post by KD289 »

Back in the late 80’s I manufactured a budget 289 kit car called a KD289 and sold 19 kits, I completed 3 cobra kits ourselves and the others went all over the country, I’d be interested in contacting anyone with a KD289 in particular a chap from Liverpool called Dave who was extremely keen, but never found out where he completed his car. Can anyone help please. 👍

Hi KD289,

I have seen 2 KDs in Germany with Ford Cortina axles and I have a few pics of KDs.

Hi KD289 (name?)
Not sure if I've ever seen one personally.
I would also ask the question on www.cobraclub.com

I have two here with me in Norfolk.

The first bought as an unstarted kit from south M25 area.
The second from somewhere up the A1.

The first saw most of the chassis thrown away to be replaced with a back bone affair using MGB running gear and rover v8.

The second was picked up initially as a spare body ‘just in case’
It is now undergoing a somewhat unconventional build using Audi V8 and a curious mixture of other parts

Hi Kevan, (presumably!)

I have two KD’s here in South Norfolk and I think there is another around here as well.

My first came as an unstarted kit from south M25 area as I recall. It was subsequently extensively redesigned in the chassis with a backbone chassis made to take MGB running gear by myself. I don’t know how to post pictures here I am afraid.
The second one was bought mainly as a spare body for my number one. It had a rather home made chassis (which is still around here). The car is currently undergoing a somewhat slow build into a bit of a ‘BitSa’. Audi 4.2 crate motor into Getrag with another backbone chassis. Kidney bean knock ons with all forged alloy bouncy bits from a variety of donors.

Regards,

Andrew

Hello David,

We have passed like ships in the night a few times over the years. How are you?
I also just missed meeting Mr Norbury whilst at a kit car event. He was apparently eyeing up my grey car as he was unsure of it’s provenance I think.
Nowadays it is www.asmotorsport.co.uk that takes up all my time. Not nearly enough to get on with my KD number two project.

How do you get pictures onto this forum? If I press the button above I just get some text in parenthesises

Regards,

Andrew.

Well Andrew, your website looks very good and the product looks good too. We have of course all aged a bit, I am now retired (72 years old). I have got a big scar on my chest following a quadruple heart bypass op almost 2 years ago. I still have the BRA 289 which I will keep forever. When I am unable to drive it it will be going to join our youger son and his family in the USA. I compete in sprints and hillclimbs in my Radical PR6. I have a very nice Porsche 968 Coupe and last week I took delivery of my latest acquisition which is a 1928 Delage DR 70 saloon. So cars are still a big part of my life along with our two sons and their families which includes 4 grandchildren. It is really nice to touch base again. Best wishes, David
