Just making the point that that was the generally accepted practice. I doubt there are many clubs that can afford “claims” from past members. Remember, the people that run our club are volunteers who do this in their spare time for the benefit of the rest of us (and very grateful we are too) who are too busy/lazy to do it……(unless I’m mis-informed and the club is paying them all 50K a year….)
It’s not in my interest or anyone else’s to be stirring old issues (now resolved) and was not my intention to do so.

If I had "cancled" my membership just by not paying the yearly fee, e.g. in January 2023, I still would get two or three T289R News in 2022. So, it has nothing to do with "afford".
It has to do with ignorance etc.

I’ve just looked at the constitution, and it says this:

The 289 Register Constitution

2.9 Resignation from the Club
Membership of the Club will normally continue from year to year. Resignation from the Club must be by email notification of the Membership Secretary. Members can reapply for membership by contacting the Membership Secretary and paying the annual membership fee.
2.12 Cessation of Membership
Any Member ceasing, voluntarily or otherwise, to be a member of the Club, shall cease to enjoy any of the privileges of membership, but shall remain liable for the payment of any outstanding subscriptions due at the date of resignation or expulsion. At the discretion of the Membership Secretary, unexpired membership subscription paid may be refunded pro rata to the Member.

I think that is pretty clear, and the last thing I want is to see is any further falling out between any of us over this whole episode, so let’s just get out and enjoy our cars!

The simple solution would be to rather than cancel membership immediately, just not renew your membership when the time comes, Simples.
That way you still get any further magazines due to you.
