Brand new Mk1 Escort

Post by peterc »

For those who enjoyed seeing or rallying the Mk1 Escort you can now buy a brand new one. You just need very deep pockets. Printing starts at £138k!
MST is a company that can build your alternative dream car. Either Mk1 or Mk2 Escort built to group 4 spec and all fully IVA’d.
Reinforced shell with full roll cage and big arches.
Standard fit engine is a 2.5 Duratec with 200 BHP. This can be upgraded to 225, 250 or 270. The full fat version has a BDG ( that’s a later version of the infamous BDA) plus Ali gearbox. Alternatively a Sierra Cosworth engine with a turbo to give 330 or 350 in 2.7 spec.
Wonder if many people are interested at that high price. They have a waiting list of 30 cars!

I used to have a MK1 Escort Mexico. It had an ex-works seam welded steel arched shell, knock on magnesium minilites, turreted rear suspension, World Cup cross member, bildstein suspension, uprated brakes, squillion point roll cage, twin 40’s the list goes on and on. Went like a rocket and handled like it was on rails, but not the most comfortable car for a young family so it had to go. I got £1,300 for it and thought I’d done pretty well!
Incidentally, the guy who bought it still owns it and is coming to the end of a huge rebuild back to bog standard!

How can they get that brand new car legal on the road? It seems impossible to me. I guess that none of theses cars will fulfill the today standards that are needed.

I would initially agree with you Migge on the basis of the radius and protrusion rules if not many more. However they do say that after a few necessary modifications they are able to get it through IVA and each vehicle will be compliant.
