I’m in the process of re-bushing my steering rack as it’s had a tendency to make loud banging noises over pot holes and speed bumps.
On inspection I’ve found that the main bush that carries the rack at the passenger end had some wear resulting in some play.
I duly ordered a replacement bush but have found it to be even looser than the one coming out. Pic show old bush on left, new one on the right, which looks quite different.
Has anybody had any similar experience or even recognise the bush on the left?
Cheers.
Dave.

Re: Oversized Bush
And here in lies the problem.
Main rack. Old bush. New replacement bush!

Re: Oversized Bush
Dave, I replaced it with a brass bush, which was machined to fit. No problems so far.

Re: Oversized Bush
Thanks Karl. Was that because it’s the easier for you to machine your own or because you couldn’t find a suitable bush via MG retailers.
Thanks again.
Dave.

Re: Oversized Bush
That's a 0,5 mm total, so 0,25 mm around! Put some grease in between and there you go.
Re: Oversized Bush
Dave, actually it was sintered bronze, dimension 25x35x20 mm, which I could get from a agro shop cheap and fast and no need to search in the UK?
