Rover V8 headers

Post by simonjrwinter »

When fitted in a Hawk, does the Rover V8 need a “special” set of headers or are the usual MGB V8 headers suitable?
Thanks
Simon

I was under the impression that a Hawk needed Gerry’s headers.
I can report that he now has St Stl items in stock.
He got new stock a week after I had placed an order with a local company at over twice the price. ☹️

You will need Gerry’s headers in order to route down between the block and the main chassis rails or commission custom headers to fit.

Ah, ok. I take it the “block hugger” headers won’t do the job then….. interesting…..

I’ll try to find time to get piccy’s of my new headers. It’s a bit difficult measuring the amount they dive in toward the block.
From info gained over last few months you need 1.5” primaries and then it’s relative to your BHP as to exhaust system size. Mine starts at 2.5” O/D for 280 bhp.
Gerry standard is only 2.125” but is perfectly OK for 220 bhp probably intended for 3.5 L.

I can't give you an on car photo as I do not have the engine at present.
But here's my new headers.
The outlet flange is circa 30+ degrees from horizontal.
Hope that helps.

Thanks, they should be at London prices!
I admit I do like the fluted collector. Looks better from the inside reducing the massive cavern effect of other funnel shaped collectors.
