Hawk Ace/Cobra on eBay

Post by simonjrwinter »

I’ve put the car on eBay now and have made the brave/stupid decision to list it with no reserve……will be a nice little project for someone…..

I'm sure its worth more than that but there is a caveat in so much would it end up with a Q plate. Hawk front suspension, Jag rear and a BMW engine.
In itself some good kit but I can't help but be nervous for the buyer.
Would the IVA be a challenge?

I think there are several hawk that have got through the IVA with a jag IRS without resorting to a Q plate. Of course the new owner could fit an MGB axle just to be sure and re-fit the IRS at a later date. The price barely covers the cost of the body/chassis and the suspension on the current price list. I don’t want to break it for parts but maybe I should….

A Jag IRS shouldn't be a problem for SVA, at least it wasn't back in the IVA days.

From memory you need 5 items from the original car to get an age related plate?
Clive I think you got the IVA and SVA the wrong way round. Mine was SVA in 1999.

I assume this is the same as in Car & Classic?
I did try asking a few Q's thru the ad as I'd be interested in buying.
Have the chassis/engine mounts been modified to take the BMW engine & box?
What car is the 'donor V5' ?
What is the diff ratio, is it lsd?
Are the Hawk seats still available?

The Q plate is determined by DVLA and has nothing to do with IVA. When I took my car to be inspected by DVLA they were only really interested in the VIN and engine numbers. The young guy didn't have a clue what a Diff was and couldn't tell where the steering rack was let alone know what donor vehicle it came from. Uprated front suspension could have come from an MG donor as could the steering rack, brakes and gearbox.
Cheers, Clive.

Yes, same car
I believe the chassis mounts are standard Hawk, but couldn’t be 100% sure
Donor V5 is MGB
Not sure if it’s an LSD or ratio, sorry
There are bills for over £30,000 (not including body/chassis) that go with the car.
Hawk seats will be available to buyer
